Marie Digby

Three years ago, I was totally in love with Colbie Caillat. I could listen to her debut album over and over again for months. I bought all her albums, but was awfully disappointed with the last - I have a distaste for overly edited music albums.

Even so, I know that I will buy her next album when it releases.

marie-digby-unfold-album-cover1Come 2010, I’m falling head over heels with Marie Digby.

Half Japanese, half Irish-American. There is just something magical about her vocals. I bought her first album on a wimp after listening to it fast forwarded - exactly the same way I bought Colbie’s album without knowing who she was.

I have been listening to her album over and over for a couple of days now. Whilst doing my work, whilst driving. It’s therapeutic.

I’m just loving songs like “fool”, “stupid for you”, and “unfold”. Jiving to the tunes really makes my day. =)

Lady Gaga on Degeneres

I can always count on watching Ellen Degeneres show on making me laugh. Have been a fan since two years ago, and still am a fan today. She beats Jerry Springer hands down. It does help that she has this megawatt smile that banishes the black clouds to pluto. And her eyes, in Tara terms is “smizing”. Woot. Luv Luv.

Anyway, I was watching this espisode on Lala Gaga, and boy can she sing. Minus the fact that she craves media attention and has an outfit change every 5 minutes; she really can sing! It sounds strange, but I’m starting to be a Lady Gaga fan. Who can wear latex and still look fashionable?

Lady Gaga…

Catch her song here and here.

Colbie Caillat - Breakthrough

colbiecaillat-breakthrough2

It’s OUT!!!!!!! Her newest album is out! Colbie’s second album breakthrough was released on August 25th.

I saw it, grabbed it, bought it.

Distinctively sung in Colbie’s style, breakthrough features 18 songs (or 19 depending on your region). Even the album cover spots a distinct resemblance to that of the first album.

The album is written such that you can listen to it for hours on a road trip, have it repeated, and not be bored of it. Most of the songs are sung with an upbeat tune (even if it’s about breaking up), so you’ll be nodding your head to the tune.

Breakthrough is unlike her first album, breakthrough sounds is starting to sound more main stream.

Honestly, I’m still a fan of her first album.

2 weeks into listening to the album, I still haven’t memorised the lyrics, because the songs are pretty similar in tune, and the lyrics aren’t as catchy as those in CoCo.

In any case, my dear Colbie, I still heart your songs very much. And I will pop the CD when I’m on a long ride home. =)

Justin Nozuka

Justin NozukaI present to you Justin Nozuka - soulful, yearning - his incredible vocals and emotive gaze sent shivers down my spine. His singing style is peppered with twangs of soft rock and blues, coupled with modernity.

He is the modern singer. The modern man. And he is really pretty.

Born in New York to Japanese and American parents, Nozuka grew up in Toronto (Yay Canada).

Rough, yet sensitive - his ballads are emotional; it tugs the very last tearful corner of your heart. At the same time, he has a punk side - taking on rock pop songs with an urban-edgy voice. He is a gem in the rough waiting to be discovered and cut to its sparkling best.

I like the fact that there is a sort of raw edged quality to his singing. It is something that you can keep listening to for a long period of time, without having this nagging toothache. I just dig his street-style approach to the songs.

I love his versatility too! From the common love story, to death at war time, to daily fun, his songs are stung with strong emotions - sorrowful, longing, or plain funky.

I’m buying his album the moment I can squeeze time to head to the stores - heck about my spending quota for the month.

I’m hooked.

Watch Justin Nozuka’s music video on youtube. Watch this video on “After Tonight” as well!

Lisa Ekdahl - Slow knowing smile

Give me that slow knowing smile.

Lisa Ekdahl

Swedish songwriter and singer Lisa Ekdahl, sure knows how to pull a string or two in my heart.

Compared to her previous work, her latest album is more upbeat, jazzy, and with a touch of romanticism. I love ALL the songs in the album (and that is rare).

I sorta feel like I’m back in the knee deep snow days, gazing at the greyish cloud, and looking at the flurries fall. Standing alone in the sparse city space, and laughing as the cold flakes melt on my icy face.

Hope was what I felt.

Warmth from that cup of hot chocolate was what I longed for.

Slow knowing smile.

And at the end, when I’m really cold, and had too much fun making imaginary snow angels. I know my Papa is waiting for me to pass me my pink mittens. And to give me a great bear hug.

Thanks Lisa.

Michael Jackson

Michael JacksonMichael Jackson passed away 2 days ago, on the 25th of June 2009. He was 50.

The entertainment arena stands still for a moment to remember the “King of Pop”.

I have always thought Jackson as the successor of Elvis Presley. They were both icons of their time. Great singers who did well in what they were born to do.

Despite his extreme physical changes (generating rumours that he suffered from skin cancer) and eccentric behaviours (hanging his son out of a hotel in Berlin), he still had a loyal fan following.

To be frank, I’m a big fan of his song “Heal the World”. I thought that out of all the songs he has sung, that song was the most meaningful of them all. It always puts a tear in my eye.

I was anticipating his “This is It” tour in London this coming July. Even though I have no luck flying there to watch the concert, I really wanted to read in the news about how great and successful his comeback was. I had hoped that after 4 years, he would have bounced back from his court trials and hopefully somehow erase off memories of his childhood abuse.

Like all great singers, even with his passing away, Jackson will continue to live on as a legend. His songs would be played and heard for a good many years to come.

May he finally find the peace he was looking for all his life. And with his dreams, may people be inspired by his songs.

The “King of Pop” will live on.

Lisa Ono & Chocolatchino

I love my bags and pretty dresses. But, music will always be my soul.

I take a really long time to decide on whether I want to purchase a bag or a wallet; the same goes for clothes. But, when it comes to buying music cds, I always seem to buy them after listening a sample.

Japanese - Brazilian singer, Lisa Ono, recently released two Bossanova CDs: Look to the rainbow and Cheek to cheek.

Look to the Rainbow - Lisa Ono Cheek to cheek - Lisa Ono

And they are really good.

The songs in Look to the rainbow have a quirky feel to it, whilst the songs in Cheek to cheek are more soothing and mainstream. For a sample of songs from either one of the CDs, visit Lisa Ono’s website at http://www.onolisa.com.

I don’t know why she released the songs in two separate albums, even though the songs were recorded during the same period and released with twin-like covers. Perhaps it is because there is a slight difference in the character of songs in the two albums.

To fully enjoy the music, listen to it on a rainy day, snuggle up in bed, read a book whilst drinking a cup of hot chocolate. Now, that’s art.

Colbie Caillat Deluxe Album

After waiting for 2 years, Colbie launched her latest album - Coco the Deluxe Edition. This new edition has 20 songs, out of which, 12 songs are from the original cover and the other 8 songs consist of unplugged versions of the old songs and brand new songs.

Being the Colbie fan, I bought the new album.

True to herself, her new songs were characteristic of Colbie: smooth vocals, upbeat tunes, and very-California (it’s the beach, the sun, and the sea). Comparing her new works to the old 11 songs, I have to say that I’m still a fan of “Bubbly, Magic, Tailor made, and Feelings show”. There’s just this sweet vibe about her old songs.

Nonetheless, I’m happy that I get to hear new songs.

Bianca Ryan

I present to you the juicy tunes from Bianca Ryan. So, I’m two years late. Nonetheless, no matter how many years passes by, beautiful songs are here to stay.

Jive to the tunes of this 14 year old child this festive occasion.

Merry Little Christmas.

&

Why couldn’t it be Christmas Everyday.

I second that.

Blessed Christmas everyone.

Drifting between Nightwatch & First Light

Music is a powerful tool. Soothing voices and soft melody transcends across geographically, bringing me on the tops of snow covered mountain, beautifully white icy lakes and closing thy eyes, I can feel the feather-like-flakes kissing my cheeks. Aww, the love of the cold white winter topped up with take-away hot chocolate to warm the soul.

Silje’s silky vocals has this power to bring a smile to my face, her recent works are incredible. Invokes so much pretty emotions in a person. The tingling of the little toes, the feeling of romance in the air.

Music is such an escape. Dance between night fall & day break. You can dream incredible dreams.

Music is global, freedom of expression through pop, rock, jazz, blues, country, metal & new age. But I rejoice through jazzy works. Oh, I’m dreaming… of a white Christmas all over again. =)

I’m currently listening to the albums Nightwatch and First Light by Silje Nergaard. Soothing tunes to listening to whilst on a long drive around the country side on a restless night.
