Harper’s Island - Gasp, Sigh
I’m distraught. Mid-way through the 2 hour season finale, my heart felt like it sunk to the bottom of the sea. True to the director’s sense of twists and turns, the ending was a bumpy one.
Episode 12:
Victim 1: Danny Brooks. The college buddy. Died by being stabbed by a rod that holds paper.
Victim 2: Trish Wellington. The bride. Stabbed by her husband-to-be, Henry.
Episode 13:
Victim 1: Christopher Sullivan. The best man. Killed by being stabbed by his best friend, Henry.
Victim 2: John Wakefield. Stabbed by his son, Henry.
Victim 3: Henry Dunn. The groom. Stabbed by Abby.
Survivors:
Abby Mills, Jimmy Mance, Shea and Madison Allen.
Can we say yay?
As it turns out, Henry is Abby’s half brother. He has turned psycho. He is on a rampage to kill everyone, whom he brought to the island, on the pretext of celebrating his wedding.
I feel my stomach making a sick turn.
Henry is filled with rage that he was abandoned at birth by his real mother, Abby’s mum. Henry meets Wakefield by chance after the killings 7 years ago. A year later, Wakefield searches for Henry, and Henry acknowledges him as his father.
So here is the nice Henry who plotted the series of sick killings. He got himself a fiance (Trish), made himself a best friend (Sully) and good friends (Booth, Malcolm, and Danny) who graced his wedding as groomsmen. He conveniently held the wedding at Harper’s Island, because the love of his life (Abby) told him, when he was a kid, that she wished that the two of them could spend all summer on the island by themselves.
He designed it for that purpose.
Having despised his adoptive family for a long time, he killed his adoptive family’s only son (J.D.). He also killed his adoptive uncle, Marty.
Unfortunately the rest of Trish’s wedding list guest had to go too (Beth, Chloe, Cal, Katherine, Richard, and Lucy). We knew that Henry has always had something against Mr. Wellington, so the poor man had to go, even though he was the father of the bride.
They were all just part of the plan.
Lastly, any person who was unfortunate to have implicated themselves in this joyous occasion were axed (Shane, Maggie, Hunter, and Nikki).
Someone please cry foul play.
As luck turns out, Henry chose Abby over his father - killing his father at the end. So shout relief, at least justice was served to one deserving soul.
To make sure that the show ends with zero murderer running loose, the script writer made sure that justice was served to the last deserving person, Henry. In self-defense, Abby stabbed Henry.
After 13 episodes, I’m pretty happy that it ended. Finally. But, it cannot describe my anguish that it had to end in such a strange way.
Half-brother has a thing for his younger half-sister? He holds an unrequited love for his half-sister? Thus, plots for 5 years to get her back to the island, so that he can fulfill her dream? In the midst kill innocent people, just because they were part of the plan.
I think I’ll steal some of my niece’s bed-time fairytales to read tonight, to comfort my distorted heart.
Recommendations
I’m a great believer of maximising my hard-earned money. It is all about being a smart independent lady who knows how to use her money wisely.
So I have been snooping around the websites to obtain information to see which credit cards and membership cards offers great benefits minus the frills. And I was alarmed that there was so limited information available online!
Thus, I’m going to write about them instead. If you have any good cards that you would like to recommend, drop me a mail!
On the side note, if you have any good recommendations for any eateries, or events that you would like to share with me as well, do drop me a mail too.
Maybelline Gel Eyeliner
Cosmetic power-house Maybelline scores with their latest gel eyeliner product, climbing up the Japan market and named Japan’s number one selling gel eyeliner.
I have to admit that after a bad experience with their first liquid eyeliner (which, in my opinion had staying power, but was too itchy and always left me with red rashes), it took me about 2 months to convince myself that it was alright to spend $19.95 to test try this new eyeliner. After all, there must be a reason why the Japanese ladies love it so much.
A couple of test tries later, I can say that this eyeliner is a far cry from their first liquid eyeliner. In fact, this new improved eyeliner is really really good that I might make this my staple eyeliner.
Smudged proof, non-greesy, non-cakey, easy application and easy to remove, and for just $19.95? I’m sold.
What’s best is that it currently comes packaged with a free eyeliner brush (which works magic), so you do not need to fret spending more money to purchase an eyeliner brush.
Get your Maybelline gel eyeliner (which comes in basic black or brown) from major departmental stores. Wait to purchase it during their 20% less promotional period, which happens so frequently.

ILF: Hotcakes
I made hotcake duckies for breakfast this morning. It turned out to be really fantastic.
This is my second attempt at making hotcakes, and I found that it tastes really really good with these precise measurements. You may make minor adjustments as you deem fit.
Portion: Makes about eight 15cm in diameter hotcakes.
Time: 15 minutes to prepare and make the batter. 20 minutes to cook all the hotcakes.
Hotcakes:
- 154 g self raising flour
- 2 tbs fine sugar
- 1 egg beaten lightly
- 185ml of fresh milk (I use Meji. For a lighter tasting hotcakes, use lighter tasting milk.)
- Butter for cooking
- Maple syrup
Directions:
Prepare the batter:
1) Place the flour and sugar in the beater.
2) Place the beater on slow speed. Beat in the milk. Beat in the egg. Obtain a smooth batter.
Cook the hotcakes!
1) Warm the pan. Add some butter. The butter helps to brown the hotcakes.
2) Scoop and pour batter into the pan.
3) Wait for bubbles to appear before flipping it around to cook second side.
4) Remove when both sides are slightly brown.
5) Add maple syrup.
The finished product. Nicely browned hotcakes!
Use different cookie-cutters or egg-shapers to make it a fun-filled breakfast for the little ones.
Top it up with hashbrowns to make it a super-duper great breakfast. Enjoy!
Etsy - Colorado Studio
I was snooping on the Etsy site for unique purchases. I chanced upon this ceramic jewellery via the Etsy Mud Team. They seek to present hand-made pottery works by Etsy artists.
The profits from the items featured on their page are donated to the Etsy Mud Team for promoting and advertising future artists
and their works. A smart marketing idea indeed.
I’ve never purchased any ceramic jewellery before, and thus was a bit hesistant to buy any. But this unique (only one! What a huge plus) and gorgeous pendant plus silver necklace from Cynthia’s Colorado Studio won me over.
Cynthia is one of the nicest sellers I have come across in all my e-purchases. She was courteous, friendly, and helpful. She even offered to send it internationally to me at her own expense. The item came carefully packed - bubble wrap, box, and bubble wrapped again. I’m impressed.
