Twilight

Alright, I am slow, but I have gotten around to watch the first of the Twilight quad. This image is not the popular cover, but it is the version that I prefer.

We have been bombarded by images of the blood sucking “human”; from Count Dracula in Sesame Street, to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, to I have a date with the Vampire. Originally thought to be an evil creature, it seems that the vampires have gotten a lot cooler in our era. Gone is the fear of being eaten or turned into a vampire. Instead, we seem to be welcoming the idea of being turned into one. That is Twilight for you.

Watching Twilight is like watching Buffy all over again. But Buffy with a twist. Instead of humans being afraid and go out on a vampire hunting spree; we now have a group of good vampires who are “vegetarians”, who protect a human instead. But the characteristics of vampires still remain, so you would see lots of pale looking vampires, who have envious fair complexion and hazy eyes.

Besides having delicious looks to match, perhaps it is the hint of devilish side to the good vampires, that lure female fans. Or perhaps it is the old story plot of good versus evil, and good-must-triumph-feel-good-factor, that engages our interest. Who knows, but I do know that Twilight has created quite a stir amongst teenagers and young adults alike. And to soothe my Buffy-fan-at-heart, I am anticipating for the next Twilight movie to be aired.
