Butter Cookies

Cookies! I stuck my head in the kitchen, poured flour and made the kitchen really messy. The end results, butter cookies for the sweet toothed.

150 g butter.
1/4 tsp vanilla essence
100 g castor sugar
1 egg yolk separated
2 tbsp milk
260g plain flour.

Set the oven to 130 - 140 Celcius.

1) Place butter, vanilla essence and sugar together. Beat it at medium speed, till light and fluffy.
2) Beat in the egg yolk and milk.
3) Stir in the flour.

If the mixture seemed too yellow and soggy, place more flour. Kneed it into a dough. The dough must be slightly firm and must not “melt” as you roll the dough. Cut into shapes.

Bake for 15-20 min depending on your oven.

Bianca Ryan

I present to you the juicy tunes from Bianca Ryan. So, I’m two years late. Nonetheless, no matter how many years passes by, beautiful songs are here to stay.

Jive to the tunes of this 14 year old child this festive occasion.

Merry Little Christmas.

&

Why couldn’t it be Christmas Everyday.

I second that.

Blessed Christmas everyone.

Happy Birthday Jesus! Blessed Christmas Everyone!

It is my favourite time of the year! Christmas…

Even though snow has evaded me once again this festive season, I’m still full of praise and joy.

1) I did get my first real Christmas tree with pine fragrance and decorations.

2) I did buy my niece her Christmas present!

3) I sent cards to all my loved ones!

Little Nonya

It has been a while since Mediacorp came up with a drama series that is worth catching. LIttle Nonya is the latest local drama series to air at the 9 o’clock prime time spot.

This series aims to educate people about the Peranakan way of life. The producer or script writer in my opinion is rather smart in introducing facts about the Peranakan way of life subtly. FIrst you have the accidental flipping of a book that showcased ancient photos of Babas and Bibis. Thereafter, almost every episode tells the tales of the Peranakan culture like for instance Tok Panjang (or long table) in which guests would have to sit through a 12 course meal. I think this drama series scores in terms of both educational value and entertainment value.

Even before this drama series was aired on the telly, I have always had a fond likeness towards Peranakan culture. My best primary school mate was of Peranakan descent and I have always thought she was pretty. Peranakan culture is a combination of rich flavoured food (just imagine 九层糕 or 9 layered cake, Kueh Kosui, Ang Koo Kueh and Onde Onde. Heaven!), detailed embroidery (till this day I am eyeing at my grandma’s coin purse) and colourful china. There are also intricate traditional rules to follow.

Though the Little Nonya is supposedly a sob sob show to reveal the traditions of Peranakan like it is hard for a girl to choose her own fate (in marriage) or that a female’s marriageability often depends highly on whether she has good embroidery skills and more importantly cullinary skills. Nonetheless, it is high time that Singapore has a local film that showcase a part of our heritage and I believe that Little Nonya has done us proud.

BonChoco Chocolate Mix

Winter season has kicked in! Technically it is not 0 degrees in Singapore and it is more of a tropical christmas than a wintery one. However, with the daily dose of rain plus a pretty light up in orchard, it does feel like a colder christmas.

There are several things I love to do on cold rainy days. 1) Eat noodles in piping hot soup and 2) Sipping a cup of hot chocolate.

For a good cup of home made hot chocolate, buy BonChoco’s instant hot chocolate mix. Even though it seems rather expensive being 5 packets for SGD 3, it taste creamy and foamy enough to match that of Starbucks’ hot chocolate at one cup for SGD 6. A word of advice, for people who wants idiot-proof free good cup of hot chocolate, purchase the 5 packets in a box instant hot chocolate mix rather than the canned version. I bought the canned version of the chocolate mix today and realise I need lots of practice to make a perfect cup of hot chocolate.

Ahhh.. Now all I need is to buy eggnog to add to the festive occasion.
