BR: This is how it happened

A few months ago, I was browsing the Chinese book shop at Cathay and chance upon a girly book series called Little Black Dress Books. Fun fiction for the girl at heart. True marketing genuis I thought.

So I picked up a couple of books from the series and have been reading since then.

First up, the only one I have managed to complete - This is how it happened. The story goes that Maddy is plotting a pay-back-revenge on her ex-fiance who stole her marketing ideas and kicked her out when he finally got hold of the company. She first starts off with simple witch spells and then hires a hit-man. What I like best about this story is that the chapters ding-dong between 1) what did the fiance do to maddy and 2) maddy’s plots. Rather refreshing way of writing. But well, like all girly books, the girl wins beating the poor lad and it’s hooray for the reader!

It must be the old books

I started having an odd flu the day after I cleared my old books. First came a onset of high fever followed by a week’s worth of phlem that never seem to go away.

Talking about such odd incidents reminds me about my bleeding belly button last year. It turned out that it was just an infection.

This year, or rather this week I started feeling pain behind my ears. I’m not that alarmed actually because the pain is similar to that of my pierced ear-holes when they had infection. So I thought hey, it jolly well could be because of abrasion due to the glasses. It started out as pain on my right ear, and then the swelling went away as quickly as it appeared. Then my left ear started hurting.

A quick googling reveals that I’m not alone! Well my guess is it is some swollen lymph node. Which jolly well can explain why I’m still sick for 1.5 weeks. Must be all that clearing of my old books.

Hush I’m doing my business.

In response to an article published in the Straits Times, here is a candid photo I took in Ancient Ephesus. I felt really silly taking the photo, but come on! How many times do you get the chance to sit on ancient property like one of the world’s first advanced toilet system that had free flowing water underneath to remove waste?

Anyway, yes I came across this article in ST on the unglamorous part of Singapore - the washrooms. Dirty, wet, stinky and a hazard. My heart really goes out to the people who help us clean the cubicles.

May I give you a good suggestion. One big way to make people sit on the toilet bowls instead of squatting on it? Make the doors such that there is a side gap. Yes, I know Singaporeans would take a long time to get used to this “invasion” of privacy. They would for sure make noise. I mean I did too, I recall feeling outright embarrassed for about 2 weeks when I was in Canada and had to use their washrooms. But after a while, it occurred to me, nobody really cares. Plus your butt is fixed right on the seat who can see anything? The result? People would really sit on the seats and thus better maintained seats. No more disgusting drips of liquid all over the seat.

Such habits really requires many years of cultivation. But after you brain wash your brains for the better, (think no spitting in Singapore) it just kind of get stuck in your mind and it becomes an automatic habit.

So Singaporeans do the right thing! Please, use the washrooms with more grace.

Love notes

I’m moving house soon and to an even smaller room so I have to reduce the number of ikea paper boxes that I have. I successfully chucked away 2. But whilst chucking away my boxes, I found an entire stash of letters.

Letters from dear old friends, pen-pals (yea, it was so in), beaus & seniors. The notes of love marked the days where postcards were happening, the NY way of folding papers, expensive japanese papers were the thing to use or when even foolscap paper would suffice.

I was really tempted to read letter by letter to find out secrets that I shared with my friends, but the thought on scraping through the overflowing 2 boxes full of letters made me place the antiques back to where they belong.

I share leave the reminenscence to when I’m a feeble 75 when I have pretty much nothing left to do.

Oh my babies - I.Y.

I’m just too excited over my purchases today. And this joy is hard to contain. Therefore, please swoon with me as I showcase to you my heelies.

First - my beige wedges. I have been looking high and low for a nude looking pair of heels. I do not drool over wedges because they make my legs look short. But, for some reason, this pair as an umph factor. Delicious! I snap this pair of wedges & walked around the store with it. It must be my lucky day for it was the last pair!

Next up, coming from their luxury line - pink peep toes heelies! Plain to look at. But it has a certain subtle factor to it that I really like. I really must be out of my mind. Or my feet must be out of their minds. Given that the heels are towering 3 inches and above.

Anyway, the luxury line from C&K is pretty up and coming in my opinion. In a wild guess, I feel like they are trying to rival Aldo or something. As long as they keep they designs down to earth and avoid being too stiletoe-like I’ll still be their fan.

My 3rd pair - grey ribbon ferragamo wannabe. My sister didn’t like this pair of shoes because it was too flat in the front. But I bought it anyway, because, I can’t find my grey flats at home. And my in colour is grey.

Alright, breathe please. My last pair - pink towering heeeeeeelies! I think this is so classy. I had my initial doubts because it is really tall. But, the versatility and comfort (amazing) won me over.

Don’t ask me why, but I think I’m in my nude-neutral-phase. Or I’ve grown up and out grown my auntie-loud-bashful shoe ways. Anyway, I’m loving all of the shoes. =)

Muji Portable Eye Lash Curler

I love Muji for its sleek transparent designs. So zen.

I also love Muji for always tapping onto innovative ideas. Simple but exquisite. And when you see the product, you always wonder, wow why didn’t I think of it first.

I am totally in love with this product. A portable eye lash curler. Gone are the days when I have to bring a bigger pouch simply because my eye lash curler is too huge. This fits so snugly. The best part about it? It cost only SGD5.90. Go figure!

Fall, fall, fall!

Dang, fall is here. And it’s driving me half crazy thinking why am I sitting in my room in this small little island when I can be waddling with ducks in the pond. *I’m kidding*

I can just feel this urgent desire to go for a short holiday on a wimp. Yea, even though I just came back from one some 2 months ago. Perhaps, it’s timely that I dig out those boots and start parading in them even though it’s burning high 20s and 30s here.

I so need fresh air, a spin around no where and a brilliant good laugh. I so need to start getting on a pet project soon to stop the itch in my fingers!

Yellow Mickey Mouse

I hung out with a couple of old friends for dinner 2 nights ago. We were chatting and I couldn’t understand why Yellow Mickey Mouse came up in the conversation. I mean Mr. Mouse is represented by red right? It only occured to me when Tom bared his teeth.

The new bands are in for braces. Mickey Mouse bands! Check those bands on the top four teeth!

Motivation to Crawl…

Gwyneth is 7 months old. She can crawl backwards and I noticed that she can make a few steps forward as well.

But little did we know…

She can crawl a really long distance…If the motivation was right! It’s not Kanggit nor is it her stinky pillow. It is… The DDR mat!!!
